Overview

NEW YORK, NY – On February 4, 2025, Times Square unveiled Love Ever After, a heart-shaped sculpture by Pernilla Ohrstedt Studio. Situated in Duffy Square at 7th Avenue and 47th Street, the 50-square-foot installation features more than 48 oyster metal mesh cages. Not only does it represent love, but it also symbolizes sustainability and environmental renewal. The sculpture won first place in the 17th annual Times Square Arts’ Love & Design Competition. It will remain on display until March 4, 2025.

Love Ever After showcases beauty through simplicity, while also highlighting reuse, renewal, and an appreciation for the environment and the community. Its minimalist design stands out strikingly against Times Square’s bright screens. Its colors and shape change depending on the viewer’s angle, creating a unique experience for everyone.

About Billion Oyster Project

The Billion Oyster Project is a nonprofit organization focused on restoring oyster reefs in New York Harbor through educational programs. Their goal is to turn the harbor into a top-tier public blue space, which is actively enjoyed and maintained by New Yorkers. Oysters and oyster reefs not only benefit biodiversity but also filter water and serve as natural storm barriers. Before New York City became known as the Big Apple, it was called the Big Oyster, a name originating from the abundance of oysters in the harbor. At that time, the harbor was one of the most oyster-rich in the world. Oyster shells were used for road construction, mortar, and even burned to make lime. However, today, most oyster shells in New York City end up in landfills. Consequently, the Billion Oyster Project aims to change this by collecting, cleaning, storing, and recycling oyster shells.
