A City Reimagined in Orchids

The 23rd annual Orchid Show continues one of the Garden’s most beloved traditions. Artist Mr. Flower Fantastic transforms everyday city moments into bold floral environments inspired by New York streets. Orchids merge with slice shops, stoops, and subway scenes, turning urban life into living botanical art. City textures reappear in vibrant installations. Sculpture, flowers, and pop culture influences combine to create a contemporary vision of botanical design rooted in city energy.

Orchid Nights Bring the Garden to Life

On select evenings in March and April, the exhibition transforms into a lively nighttime experience. Orchid Nights invite adults 21 and over to dance among glowing blooms inside the Conservatory. DJ April Hunt and Mixtape lead music sets that fill the dance floor with energy and movement. Guests enjoy curated food and craft cocktails available for purchase throughout the evening. The Conservatory becomes a vibrant reflection of New York nightlife surrounded by orchids. The experience blends music, art, and floral design into a joyful city gathering inside the Garden.

DJ April Hunt is both a performer and community builder using music to celebrate creative voices. Through her platform Mixtape, she supports and uplifts BIPOC artists through dynamic live events. She has collaborated with organizations including Aperture, Starz, Lionsgate, The Whitney, MoMA, and The Shed. Her work connects culture, music, and community in powerful ways.

Food and Drinks in Bloom

On Saturday nights, visitors can also dine at Hudson Garden Grill inside the Garden grounds. Reservations are available through OpenTable, allowing guests to pair the exhibition with a full dining experience.

Meet the Artist Behind the Floral Vision

Mr. Flower Fantastic stands among the world’s most sought-after floral artists. He grew up in Queens, where his fascination with flowers began in his mother’s garden. Over time, he taught himself floral design and explored creative mediums while merging sneaker culture with floral sculpture. His signature mask and gloves, originally worn to manage allergies, became part of his artistic identity.

His breakthrough arrived in 2018 when Serena Williams’ team invited him to create a floral version of her Nike QUEEN Air Max 97, designed by Virgil Abloh. He presented the sculpture to Williams at the U.S. Open, creating a moment that brought international attention to his work. Since then, he has collaborated with brands and institutions including Nike, Netflix, Adidas, Louis Vuitton, NBC Sports, Samsung, ESPN, and 1800 Tequila. His projects range from large installations to sustainability-focused artworks and collectible design pieces.

Courses explore ways to grow plants at home and help New York remain a greener, healthier city.

Caring for Orchids at Home

After visiting the exhibition, guests can continue learning through orchid-care guides and educational videos. Experts share practical tips to help home gardeners keep orchids thriving indoors. Programs answer common questions and introduce visitors to orchid diversity and cultivation basics.

The Fascinating World of Orchids

Orchids represent one of the most advanced flowering plant families on Earth. Scientists estimate roughly 30,000 natural species and tens of thousands of hybrids worldwide. Orchid breeders have expanded this diversity through over 100,000 cultivated varieties. Orchids grow in habitats ranging from rain forests to deserts, proving their remarkable adaptability.

Protecting Orchids for the Future

The Garden remains home to an important orchid collection that includes species threatened by poaching and habitat loss. NYBG works with partners worldwide to protect orchids and restore damaged ecosystems. Conservation efforts help safeguard these extraordinary plants for future generations.

A Garden Rooted in New York

Founded in 1891, the New York Botanical Garden connects people, plants, and the planet. For more than 130 years, the Garden has remained part of the city’s cultural and environmental life. Millions visit annually seeking beauty, peace, and inspiration within its living landscapes.

Researchers at the Garden document plant and fungal diversity across the globe. Their work supports nature-based solutions to climate and biodiversity challenges. The Garden trains future botanists, landscape designers, and environmental stewards to guide environmental care forward. Protecting nature remains essential to protecting our shared future.

Spring’s Invitation to the City

This year’s Orchid Show celebrates renewal, creativity, and shared city energy. Visitors rediscover nature through vibrant color and familiar urban imagery reimagined in flowers. Daytime visits and Orchid Nights both remind guests that nature still inspires joy in busy cities. The Garden stands as both escape and reflection of New York itself – resilient, colorful, and forever in bloom.
